The Smart CM Calculator answers one question before you accept a booking: will this voyage leg actually make money?
Inputs, outputs, guardrails and how the calculator integrates with Quotation and Booking to protect margin at the source.
Pulls revenue from the current quote, cost baseline from Cost Proforma, overhead allocation from the commercial profile, and FX from the live feed. Factors in vessel / voyage / service-string context from Operations, and equipment costs from Equipment.
No free-text inputs. Every input has a provenance — you can drill back from the CM% to each cost line and its source record. This matters when the calculator disagrees with your gut, which it will.
Contribution margin %, CM in absolute terms, sensitivity band (high / expected / low), and a guardrail flag. Guardrails are configured per service profile — below the amber threshold the CTA turns amber; below red, the booking is blocked for approval.
Two modes: inline (shown on Quotation / Booking screens) and batch (shown on the Commercial dashboard for end-of-day review).
Drops into Quotation at the moment of quote acceptance. Drops into Booking at the moment of booking confirmation. Shows in the Cost Proforma review. Writes decisions to the Audit Trail.
No model retraining required for new overhead lines or FX pairs — those come from the config, not the model.
